What You Told Us...

In the last issue of Teacher Talk, we asked: "In what ways do teachers deal with teen sex and sexuality." Some middle school and high school teachers responded:

A student confided to me that she had been the victim of a date rape.

I see a lot of students touching or groping each other in the hallways.

Homophobic comments like 'You fag' are very common in the halls.

In my school, the girls sometimes wear condoms, still in the package, in their hair or as earrings.

We see more students in high school who are openly gay.

When I asked high school students what they do on the weekends, they said they get drunk and have sex. And the school board chose an abstinence-only curriculum for health classes.
